Pen-Sanity
by Jackie Logan
Copyright 2002

I’ve got Pen-sanity
A kind of lyrical insanity
Where words bounce off your ‘branium’
Burn thru your cranium
Rush thru your pen
And your mind becomes a stadium
Of ideas all competing for your attention
Like a kind of writing disease
Where ink from your pen burns at a million degrees
But the paper is unaffected and protected
Because that’s the staging area for cogitations
That travel through my mind’s eye and imagination
Down into my pen waiting im’pen’tiently
To fuse my ideas effectuating Pen-sanity
My pen becomes so hot in my hand
I perspire lyrics,
That seem to roll off my mind
Leaving reason and logic behind
Words swoop down from galaxies unheard
Filling my pen with lyrics for the spoken word
Giving my pen a rationale of its own
Writing about imaginary realities
In other poetic time zones
My pen is a writing television
Word combinations simulate visual precision
My pen is insane
Got it’s own brain
That plugs directly into mine
And masturbates my mind
Until I ‘cum’municate
Thru my pen
By thought-remote control
Powered by poetic energy
The only cure
Is to write some more
And more and more
I’m flipping words
Like hot pancakes on the grill of life
Cutting thru verbiage with my
Metaphoric hyperbolic pen-knife
I feel a ‘pen-adrenaline’ rush
When I begin to write
I become my pen
And my pen becomes me
When I leave my pen
It clamors for me
I have to answer to its call
I have to find one quick
Or I’ll get a ‘penpreture’
And become pen-sanity sick
Aroused by my ‘pentastic’
Ability to conceptualize
My pen helps to memorialize
Ideas sitting on the shelf of my mind
By bringing them to print
Sometimes my pen becomes aggressive
Words over exaggerated and excessive
I try to stop being so word intensive
Give my pen a break and return to being pensive
I get so ‘penthusiastic’
When I’m feeling that metal or plastic
Between my fingertips
There’s nothing like the feel of the pen
On pencil in your hand
It’s like holding on to a mystical
Magical powerful wand
Sometimes it’s like a love thermometer
Writing love verses in iambic pentameter
The lines from my pen are like cayenne
Pyretic scalding peppery hot without trying
I create ‘penoramic’ scenes
Fields of lyrical dreams
With my pen
Words just dance and float with ease
Pen-sanity is a writer’s disease
Maybe you’ve got a touch of pen-sanity too
And you’re wondering what to do
Just protect your pen
Respect your pen
Teach your pen
Reach for your pen
Unleash your pen
Sell with your pen
Yell with your pen
Applaud with your pen
Reward with your pen
Chastise with your pen
Empathize with your pen
Marry your pen
Always carry your pen
Just in case
You catch a case
Of the incurable inexplicable
Pen-sanity

A message for all Women
by Jackie Logan
Copyright 2002

Women lacking self-confidence
Are allowing themselves to be used, manipulated
And discarded like snot tissue
We are being used as eye candy
To sell dreams to the unimaginative
Some of us as women are more aware of ourselves
And more conscious of who we are
And our purpose here
We are the nurturers, mothers, daughters of a higher being Who has
placed us here
To serve through our accomplishments as women
Not seeking approval or acceptance from any man

We are here through grace and should not give in to the foolish
indulgences of the male species
Who sometimes forget that their power comes through us
And from us

We don’t need to be buoyed by male approval
To make us more appealing
While diminishing our self-worth in the process,
We don’t need nudity
To express ourselves in a meaningful, sensual way
We don’t need anyone to validate us as women
By using us as background props
To be ditched for the next woman
With bigger tits or tighter buns

We are equally important
And should demand to be treated that way by our actions And our refusal
to accept the idea of being debased
In order to “get paid”
Our payment comes in the discipline it takes to shine
As a woman in the face of being unpopular
While our children look on in awe
Of our strength and commitment
To being a strong-willed woman
Who refuses to use her body
To sell anything but her own superiority
We have dominion over ourselves
And we should show it in all we do
And not disgrace and diminish
What the Creator has blessed us with.
